William Jones PI Educational App
During employment at Rantmedia, an app development company, work was undertaken on creating illustrations and UI design for an educational app called 'William Jones PI', developed by Tafol. This Welsh language app focuses on William Jones, a mathematician renowned for his contributions to the concept of π (pi).
The app's setting is the office of William Jones PI, a private investigator, providing an engaging environment for children to interact with various elements and learn about the mathematician. Through this interactive scene, users can explore and solve math-related puzzles. The app's mathematical questions are cleverly organised within a filing cabinet, integrating educational content with the investigative theme.
The design process involved creating illustrations using Procreate, followed by the addition of UI elements in Sketch. This approach allowed for the development of visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces that complement the app's educational objectives.
The project showcases the intersection of mathematics, history, and interactive design in educational technology. By presenting William Jones' mathematical legacy in an engaging, gamified format, the app aims to make learning about π and related concepts more accessible and enjoyable for Welsh-speaking children.
This educational tool not only highlights Jones' significant contribution to mathematics - the introduction of the symbol π for the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter - but also promotes Welsh language learning in STEM subjects. The app's development aligns with the growing trend of using interactive digital media to enhance educational experiences, particularly in subjects that children might traditionally find challenging.
